About Judy Hakiel-Calcaterra, LMHC, Qualified Supervisor in Florida
Judy Hakiel-Calcaterra is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist (LMHC) and Qualified Supervisor for registered interns in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage & Family Therapy in the state of Florida. She holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and a minor in Retail and Accounting, providing her with a strong clinical foundation and a practical understanding of systems, relationships, and behavior.
Experience That Matters in Mental Health Treatment
With extensive experience across a wide range of clinical settings, Judy brings a comprehensive and informed approach to therapy. She has worked in outpatient mental health programs for individuals with chronic mental illness, private treatment centers specializing in dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use disorders), as well as State and Federal correctional facilities, halfway houses, and residential treatment programs.
This diverse background allows Judy to support clients facing complex emotional, behavioral, and life challenges while tailoring treatment to each individual’s unique needs. Her experience helps clients feel understood, supported, and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey.
Why Judy Chose to Become a Therapist
Judy is often asked why she chose a career in mental health counseling. Her answer is simple: she loves people and believes deeply in the power of change. From a young age, she felt called to help others and has a natural ability to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, emotions, and goals.
Whether clients are seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, or personal growth, Judy is committed to helping them move forward with clarity and confidence.
Therapeutic Approach: Compassionate, Collaborative, and Goal-Oriented
Judy’s therapeutic approach is built on trust, empathy, and collaboration. As a licensed therapist in Florida, she believes her role is to listen, understand, and genuinely acknowledge each client’s experience. She works closely with clients to help them identify their goals and develop practical strategies that support long-term emotional well-being.
While there are no quick fixes, Judy provides consistent guidance and evidence-informed support to help clients navigate challenges and create meaningful, lasting change.
A Personal Note
Outside of her professional work, Judy enjoys spending quality time with her husband and daughter. She values staying active, traveling, and cooking, and believes in maintaining balance between mental, emotional, and physical wellness. Giving back to the community is an important part of her life—she has held multiple leadership roles within school PTO organizations and has proudly served as a Girl Scout leader for the past seven years, mentoring young girls as they grow in confidence and leadership.
