Judy Hakiel-Calcaterra, LMHC, Qualified Supervisor
You made the first step and that was clicking on my website and now you want to get to know me. My name is Judy Hakiel-Calcaterra and I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. After many different jobs in the “real world” I went back to school to become a therapist. Many people often question why would you choose this field to work with? My answer always is “I have passion and compassion for people.” It is not only rewarding but challenging to meet people and to guide them into a place where they want to be.
It is my responsibility to understand where clients are coming from along with building relationships with the client. After building a solid foundation that is formed on the basis of trust, respect, empathy, sympathy and compassion I help steer clients into the direction they choose. As your therapist, I do not have any of your answers but believe that each person has the right solution and just needs help finding those solutions. By a client developing coping skills, techniques and strategies you will have the self-assurance that can be used in future challenges.
When a challenge hits us we sometimes can’t figure out how to go around it, well in session we find exceptions to those challenges and are able to build steps in order to cross over that challenge. Clients also need to be motivated for change. Change happens when a client is ready and there are different stages of change as well. As your therapist, I help you understand your readiness for change and how you can change your readiness.
My role as a clinical therapist is to guide clients in finding their own path. A clear understanding of a client’s needs, wants and goals is what I focus on. I direct clients to their highest potential by helping clients remove obstacles for growth and healing.
Since becoming a clinician I have a variety jobs including working in outpatient centers with chronic mentally ill, private treatment centers dealing with substance and mental health, state prisons, Federal halfway houses and residential facilities.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, cooking, exercising and spending time with my husband and 4 year old daughter. I also love quotes and love finding quotes with a deep meaning and learning how to actually achieve those meanings.
